"Nine Men's Morris" is a classic board game with a rich history and strategic depth. The game is designed for two players, each starting with nine pieces. Players take turns placing their pieces on any vacant point of the game board.
The gameplay unfolds in three distinct phases:
- Placing pieces on empty points.
- Moving pieces to adjacent points.
- Moving pieces to any empty point when a player has only three pieces remaining.
An important aspect of the game is forming a 'mill,' which occurs when a player successfully aligns three of their pieces in a row. This achievement permits that player to remove one piece of the opponent from the board.
A player is deemed to have lost the game if they have only two pieces left or if they are unable to make any moves. This adds an intriguing layer of strategy as players must balance offense and defense while navigating the board.
